This impressive brick built church that is our hotels close neighbour and to wich chruch tower you will look up when you walk out onto the street, is well worth a look inside.
Built from 1407 to 1440 (without the tower) it is the youngest of the 4 chruches in the city center (the fith church, St. Lamberti had to be torn down in 1861).
Nicolai, the "Schifferkiche" in Lüneburgs "Wasserviertel" was built as a basilica, the nave beeing considerably higher than the flanking aisles. But that is not the only difference to the other churches in Lüneburg. When you enter the nave, the elegant gothic masonry immediately catches your eye. The slim columns lead your gaze up to the vaulted ceiling that is decorated with stars and will leave most visitors quite speechless for a moment.
